Edmond Baudoin is a comic book author, cartoonist, and illustrator. In the early 1970s, he published in various magazines, then began publishing comic books in 1981. In the 1990s, he illustrated texts of modern and contemporary literature. He is considered one of the pioneers of autobiographical comics in European comics. In his albums and travel journals, he recounts his life, that of his family, his friends, and those he meets. His travels and stays in Japan, Quebec, with the Inuit in the far north, in Latin America, Syria, etc., gave rise to poetic albums in which he also addressed ethical and political issues, his relationship with nature, and more. His drawings are mainly in black and white, drawn with a brush in flat areas of color, characteristic of an alternative practice with which he is associated. He received two Alph'Art awards from the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 1992 and 1997 and has published more than 80 albums.
Edmond Baudoin said: “I use drawing to write and I write to draw. There is no longer any distance between drawing and text.”
