Pascal Rabaté studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Angers
Pascal Rabaté is a comic book artist and film director. Steeped in art history, cinema, and literature, he creates his drawings in black and white, color wash, or acrylic, paying particular attention to light and framing. He has published numerous albums dealing with history, social and political issues, and intergenerational relationships. Between 1998 and 2001, he adapted Alexis Tolstoy's novel Ibiscus into a comic book and received the Alph'art award for best album at the Angoulême Festival and the Canal BD prize from comic book booksellers. In 2003, he received the Grand Prix at the Des Planches et des Vaches festival for his entire body of work. He adapted and directed his comic books for the cinema: Les petits ruisseaux in 2010, Ni à vendre, ni à louer in 2011, and Du goudron et des plumes in 2014. In 2022, he directed the film Les Sans Dents.
Pascal Rabaté said: “I want to convey emotions. In other words, I try to paint a portrait, to paint a picture of my contemporaries.”
