Jochen GERNER

Jochen Gerner
Born in 1970 in Nancy
Lives and works in Nancy
Jochen Gerner studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Nancy, graduating in 1993.

Jochen Gerner is a press cartoonist, illustrator, comic book author, and critic. He began his career by publishing his illustrations in the press, in magazines such as Les Inrockuptibles and daily newspapers such as Libération, Le Monde, and The New York Times. He went on to work with collectives of authors such as OuBaPo (Ouvroir de Bande dessinée Potentielle) and created illustrations for children's books. He also creates reference books (on birds, dogs, understanding the world, etc.) and critical works on comics, whose artistic value he defends.
In addition to his minimalist style, he is known for establishing links between text and image, comics, graphic art and contemporary art, and graphic art and architecture.

Jochen Garner said: “Continuing to do press drawings allows me to move towards the unknown and the ultra-real. I always have this relationship with documentary in most of my projects, even the most personal ones.”
