Stéphane Blanquet is a cartoonist, illustrator, multimedia artist, animated film director, and publisher. In 1989, he founded his own publishing house, Chacal puant, and began publishing alternative comic book authors. In 1996, he received the Alph'art award for fanzines at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. He creates graphic novels and autobiographical stories in which he explores “the hidden dimension of things, concealed frustrations,” his relationship with the body and the organic, saying he imagines “oddities and projects my own obsessions onto my characters.” He is interested in pulp fiction and popular art and has developed his own style, characterized by a saturation of media. His books have been translated in many countries. In 2003, he began working with the Comédie de Caen and participated in the scenography, sets, costumes, and production of plays. In 2007, he launched United Dead Artists to make art accessible to all. He publishes magazines, monographs, and objects on the work of more than 350 artists. He also developed a body of work in sculpture and installation, to which the Halle Saint Pierre in Paris dedicated an exhibition in 2021.
