Blutch (Christian Hincker, known as)
Born in 1967 in Strasbourg
Lives and works in Paris
Blutch graduated from the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts in 1989

Blutch published his first comic strips, humorous pastiche-style narratives, in the magazine Fluide Glacial starting in 1988. He went on to produce numerous albums, some of which were autobiographical in tone. He often revisited iconic comic book characters, practicing pastiche, from Tintin to Lucky Luke or Tif et Tondu, saying, “I reinterpret, I replay tunes from the repertoire, I revisit the classics.” His universe is also nourished by references to literature, cinema, and music. Recognized as one of the leading comic book artists, he received the Alph-Art humor award at the Angoulême festival in 2000, the Töppfer prize from the city of Geneva in 2002, and the Grand Prix from the city of Angoulême in 2009. In 2010, he presided over the Festival. He has designed numerous posters for films and music festivals and has illustrated children's books. In 2019, the museums of the city of Strasbourg dedicated several major exhibitions to him.

Blutch said: “To keep going, I change my approach, I change my style. I don't want to fall asleep, which is why I've never created characters, never done a series, never drawn on good ideas. My strategy is to have no strategy...”
