Lives and works in Paris
Emmanuel Guibert studied at the École Hourdé and the École nationale des arts décoratifs in Paris.

Early in his career, Emmanuel Guibert worked as an illustrator and created storyboards for films. In the 1990s, he joined a collective, the Atelier des Vosges, which sought to renew the comic book genre and produced albums in collaboration with Joan Sfar and David B, among others. His meeting with Alan Cope, an American veteran who had settled in France after the Liberation, led to a series of albums based on Cope's memories, which brought Guibert recognition. Subsequently, continuing in his unique biographical style, he retraced the journey of photojournalist Didier Lefevre in Afghanistan and received the Eisner Award for the photo and drawing album they produced together. In 2017, he won the René Goscinny Award for his entire body of work as a scriptwriter at the Angoulême Festival, then, in 2020, the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême at the International Comics Festival. He was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2023.

Emmanuel Guibert said: “I do this job to be present in the world, to capture life through observation and conversation.”
