Brecht EVENS
Born in 1986 in Hasselt (Belgium)
Lives and works in Paris
A prolific artist associated with the new Flemish comics scene, Brecht Evens received the Willy Vandersteen Prize in 2010 for his album "Les noceurs", as well as the Prix de l'Audace at the Angoulême Festival in 2011. Brecht Evens world is populated by a wealth of animals and little characters depicted in a strickingly colourful palette. He works on transparency effects by overlaying sheets of tracing papers, in a manner reminiscent of oil painting. He regularly collaborates with the fashion and movie industries; Louis Vuitton chose him, in 2014, to illustrate its Travel Book dedicated to Paris. One can admire his giant mural drawings in both Brussels and Antwerp and one of his installation is on view at the Philarmonie de Paris. It is a interractive terrestrial globe that takes visitors on a world tour of vocal techniques. In 2019, he received the Prix Spécial du Jury d'Angoulême for his work “Les Rigoles”.
